Isn't It Ironic

I've written that one of my biggest problems with the school my girls were attending was the anti-science nature of it. I was very excited to get them in a public school which would obviously not have that issue, right?

Sigh. My oldest daughter, Erica, informed me today that her teacher told the class that she is not going to teach the evolution portion of their science curriculum because she is a Christian and doesn't believe humans came from monkeys.

Great! Neither do I, but I still adhere to evolutionary theory and definitely think it should be taught. If she can't teach stuff like this in a secular school, then maybe she should be teaching at a private, Christian school that also doesn't believe in science. I could recommend one to her if she'd like.

Well if the teacher thinks humans came from monkeys, that demonstrates she has a very poor understanding of evolution and I would worry about what else she was teaching in regard to the topic. However, shouldn't she be presenting both sides and allowing the students decide what they believe based on their own values?

Oh, I agree. Most people who rail against evolution don't have much of an understanding of the theory. I don't know how she (or any other teacher) in a secular school can get upset at the curriculum and continue teaching there. If you don't like it, go teach someplace that does support your religious beliefs.

I'm a boy in Erica's class. I do math with her often, and she shows great enthusiasm in her work. However, I didn't know that we were supposed to be taught an evolution part of the science curriculum. I also think that you have no reason to suggest our teacher should teach at a private school. She is a fun teacher that makes learning enjoyable. Also, glad you like Evanescence, as I do.

Hi,Dad.It's me, Shaena.(I'm Erica's younger sister by 13 months.)I agree with Taylor.Mrs.Tognetti seems to be a fun teacher. Also most of the teachers have said they are Christians so they probably agree with Mrs.Tognetti.By the way I realized something. You know about one private school. It's the one Erica and I used to go to.Also I know you wouldn't reccomend that school unless you didn't like that person because you practically hated that school.
