A writer for The Sunday Times asks if we are "too afraid of touch." And to that, I answer that yes we are unequivocally too afraid of touching, of human contact. The article focuses on the UK, but I think it is equally applicable here in America, just look at this advertising campaign that generated controversy by indirectly painting all men as predators. Our paranoia over child molesters and lawsuits has made us act irrationally. Yes, we need to take steps to prevent our children from being molested, but we can't go overboard to the point of making people afraid of being teachers or giving kids hugs. Fear is a powerful emotion and we can't let ourselves fall prey to its call as we have so many other things (see: war on terror).
